On the 30th November, we hosted our first ever Winter Ball, to raise funds that will allow us to continue our work within schools and workplaces, as well as help funds our upcoming campaigns and projects.
With around 200 guests, it was the most ambitious event ever put on by the venue, The Nottinghamshire Golf and Country Club, and was a roaring success!
Susan Shaw, one of our amazing volunteers, organised the event with the goal of raising £10,000 for the charity. Thanks to the kind donations of attendees, and the various auctions and raffles organised by Suzi, that goal was smashed, with around £15,000 raised in total on the night alone, and further donations still coming in!
“After a lot of hard work, all I can say is, what an incredible night! It was emotional at times, as this charity is very close to my heart, but to see so many people raising funds and awareness whilst having fun and laughing at the same time… there is nothing more rewarding. Thank you to everyone that supported us, from the bottom of my heart.” Suzi, volunteer and event organiser
Opening with drinks and professional photos in the foyer, the night then consisted of speeches from CEO Kate Majid, mental health advocate and public speaker, Paul McGregor, and President of The Shaw Mind Foundation, James Espey OBE, as well as live music from ambassador Stacey Gaunt and 2014 X Factor Finalist Parisa Tarjomani, before a three course dinner.
This was followed by a raffle draw and auction, with prizes including a trip to the Monaco Grand Prix, a Mazerati for the weekend, a unique blend of Chivas Regal 18 donated by its founder, James Espey, and an original painting from local artist Rich Parker. Tables were then cleared for dancing and drinks.
“Firstly can I say what a fantastic event it was on Friday, witnessing hundreds of people having fun and raising money in the name of mental health was mesmerising. It is one of the most enjoyable events I have been to in a very long time. Thank you to Suzi, for organising the event – you are a remarkable lady and we are very grateful that you came into our lives, and to everyone who donated prizes, gifts, time into helping set everything up, and to everyone who came along. The organisation, planning and effort for the annual ball was clear for all to see, it was wonderful.” Adam Shaw, Chairman of The Shaw Mind Foundation
Once again, a huge thank you to everyone involved, from all of us at The Shaw Mind Foundation.
